Most people today prefer to invest in combination stove/ovens. This means that there are surface burners as well as an attached oven. In order to make the best use of them, it is essential to understand all the parts that are associated with it. Depending on how complex the functioning, ovens can be a bit complicated to understand. Here are the basics of its parts.
The control panel is central to all ovens. Though it can vary in terms of looks with each brand and make, it more or less contains the following elements. The thermostat is the part that works along with a copper tube. Together it regulates the temperature at which the oven functions. Thermostats are different for electronic as well as mechanical ovens. The circuit board involved is different.
Another important part of the oven is the clock. This too varies from being mechanical or electronic. The mechanical clock generally has three dials one each for the start and stop times and another for the clock itself. This allows for accurate cooking times and self cleaning processes. These clocks can be serviced, but the mechanical clocks cannot. If they fail, you will have no choice but to replace them.
The electronic keypad is next. In some models, you have a single keypad that controls the oven, the boiler, your baking times as well as the self cleaning duration and the temperature. If a problem arises in any one of these, then the entire panel will have to be replaced. In the case of electric cookers or gas based ranges, you will have one switch that will move between baking,
oiling and timed baking. In some other models, there is a separate switch for each one of these activities.
Of course there will also be a light switch for you to operate the lighting system and see what you are actually baking. Surface burner switches will help you adjust the amount of electricity that is passing through your oven. It is similar to putting your stove or range on the simmer mode. Most ovens come with self cleaning switches. This regulates the clock for self cleaning. It also works to hold the door lock button in place or other such multiple activities.
If a convection oven is what you have, then a fan will be present to circulate air. This allows for the oven to have an even temperature throughout. Even cooking of food is thus possible. You get versions where the heating coil is below the cooking area and others where it is in front of the fan. The convection cooking mode can be turned off with the relevant buttons.
