After making a decision that I wanted to have cosmetic dentistry I took it upon myself to investigate thoroughly all of my options. I quickly realised that many dentists offer cosmetic dental services but actually do not really know how to offer the level of service that patients are looking for. And with prices set so high this is why many patients opt to go abroad to have their cosmetic dentistry. I wasn\’t prepared to travel overseas and because I live in London I decided that I would investigate dentist in the local area to find out which one was best. I visited many websites to investigate the requirements of a cosmetic dentist and thought it would be good to put all of these down into a blog to help other people in a similar situation as me.

Reviews and testimonials are one of the best ways to know that your dental practice is good at offering what they say they can. Any business can make claims to be the best in the local area, but not every business can get their customers to say this for them. Reviews are an excellent way to know that your dental practice is able to offer a cosmetic dental treatment that you specifically want. Do not accept reviews from patients that have just had simple dental health checks or fillings, these patients will be reviewing the dental practice from a completely different point of view to a patient that has had complex cosmetic dentistry. In my opinion you should also ask for video reviews, these are the ultimate test as to whether the patients of the dental practice enjoyed their treatment so much that they are happy to leave a review on video.

Next on my list of things you should look out for is training and accreditation. Many dentists which have attended additional training after their basic degree will have some form of affiliation with a recognised professional organisation that deals exclusively with cosmetic dentistry. These organisations seek to train their members in the advanced techniques of cosmetic dentistry and many of these organisations offer advanced courses where dentists can become accredited with that organisation. Accreditation means that the dentist has put in an exceptional number of hours of work to hone their skills in cosmetic dentistry. Many times these organisations require that dentists submit several cases to demonstrate their skill in changing a person\’s smile. Ask your dentist for accreditation with one of the professional bodies in your country.

The final thing I want to let you know about is my own experiences of cosmetic dentistry. In the end I opted to have dental veneers, these were the quickest way for me to have straighter teeth and required a tiny amount to be taken off of my existing teeth. The dental veneers were then made to fit over the top and they look absolutely amazing.
